Hello! My name is Stephen Gordon, and I’m making records in Memphis. Created to provide a place of rest, inspiration, and community for artists, Reflection Room meets a need for affordable commercial recording. Housed in Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Midtown, the studio “pops up” in the award-winning worship space, utilizing the room’s unique design features that make it advantageous for recording.

Born in and raised in Memphis, I started playing in bands in high school. I attended MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN, hell-bent on becoming a singer-songwriter. I studied English to learn how to better craft my songs. Before graduation I had signed a development deal with producers Tom Laune (R.E.M.) and Paul Mabury (Lauren D’agle). From there I went on to tour the southeast, release albums, and open for acts like Drew Holcomb and Cage The Elephant, and have songs placed in film and TV shows. In 2016 I released an indie rock album with engineer/producer Konrad Snyder (Kacey Musgraves, Noah Kahn). I recorded some of the record in my home studio, and was surprised when Konrad suggested we use my tracks for the album. It was then I knew I had a talent for making recordings.
Having been a worship leader part-time during my years as a singer-songwriter, I took a full-time position in 2019 and moved to Alabama. I continued to pursue my passion for making recordings within the context of the local church. It was during this time that an idea began to gain ground in my mind: what if the local church became a resource for artists in and outside the church to make great art, be themselves, and create community that extends beyond the community of faith? What if the church could serve musicians by bringing the exorbitant cost of recording down to something more sustainable for artists who have great ambition, but lack the funding to produce their work at the level it deserves?
Today, this idea is becoming a reality in Memphis, TN. At Reflection Room, housed in Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Midtown, I am hard at work creating a place of rest and inspiration for the musicians of Memphis. At extremely affordable rates, I am able to bring musicians in to create their art, and produce their music at a commercial level. While we do not have all the capabilities of a commercial studio, our lean set-up is of the highest quality, including an array of high-end instruments. Our award-winning worship space has many unique features that make it an ideal sounding room for recording. Here, artists do not feel pressured to maximize their studio time, but rather can give their attention to creating and enjoying the process. I have heard repeatedly from them that there is something different about creating music here.
My hope is that this new community will be a channel of healing for not only the musicians of Memphis, but for all who connect with their music. I dream of supporting artists in a manner that helps their careers flourish, extending the reach of Memphis music nationally. My hope for the future starts in the present; one moment, one friendship, one song at a time.
